Contrary to his previous position, President Barack Obama said he will seek the blocking of the court-ordered release of photos that show US soldiers abusing prisoners. Obama explained that allowing the release of these photos would severely damage the international image of the United States.
GM is closing 1,100 dealerships this week as a part of GM restructuring program to avoid bankruptcy. Ironically the same week Chrysler is closing 25% of its dealerships (almost 800).
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused CIA of lying to the Congress about the use of tortures against military prisoners. CIA officials responded that it's Pelosi who is lying, as she was notified (among others) about the use of waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques as early as in 2003.
Dow Jones Industrial Index ends this week over 8000 level but lower than the last week's level.
