| "The Day After Tomorrow" about natural disasters caused by the climate swings, opened in theaters on Friday. The movie cost $125 million to produce and tells the tale of what global warming might do around the world. It is a big screen disaster flick to be sure. In point of fact, the scenes depicted in the movies far outpace even the most dire predictions that have been made by experts in global warming through the years. A great deal of the criticism that the movie has drawn focuses on how fast the climate changes occur in the movie itself. Even though most experts today agree that global warming is effecting the Earth's climate, there is a great deal of debate in regard to how fast the changes actually will occur over time and wheather they may cause a natural disaster. The movie takes the premise that global warming will effect ocean currents and end up causing a nearly immediate ice age. Completely bizarre weather erupts all over the planet, including multiple tornadoes that destroy Los Angeles and mammoth brick size hail stones that tear apart Tokyo. Experts maintain that there simply is no way that the Earth would slip into an ice age in five days ... which is what happens in this movie. |
