| | A new space shuttle fuel tank has been designed by NASA. The new tank is reconfigured to eliminate the debris problems that actually were responsible for dooming the Columbia space shuttle, killing the seven astronauts on board. The project managers at NASA called the redesign a major step in returning the U.S. space program to manned flight after the shuttles were grounded following the Columbia tragedy on February 1, 2003.
