Where's the weird mercury mutant? . . . in the yoke.

According to EPA estimates, enforcement of the existing Clean Air Act will limit mercury pollution to 5 tons per year by 2008. The Bush Administration’s "Clear Skies" initiative weakens the limit to 26 tons per year by 2010! (that's a 520 percent increase in mercury pollution).

Interestingly, the Bush Administration also kept an EPA report about how preganat women pass on mercury to their fetuses (causing mental retardation) under wraps for more than nine months, until journalists exposed the report and forced its release . . . and I thought they LIKED fetuses!

Mercury Thermometer Frog
Mercury Thermometer Frog hi-res pictures
Frogs do not have a single "normal" body temperature. Instead, their body temperature depends on the environment around it. Due to massive exposure to mercury over the years, several frogs have mutated into a new species, the Mercury Thermometer Frog.

With the flick of its tongue, this new species of frog can take the temperature of anything! Although, it hasn't quite mastered holding it there for a couple of minutes to get an accurate reading. Scientists are continuing their research with this unique amphibian.
