| | Donald Trump has made the phrase "You're fired" iconic. However, when it came to Miss USA, Tara Conner, he held is tongue. He announced that Conner would be keeping her job, keeping her Miss USA crown. With Conner at his side, Trump announced that he had decided to let Conner stay on as Miss USA when the beauty queen agreed to enter into rehab and agreed to undergo drug testing. Trump stated that he has always been a believer in giving people second chances. Trump owns the Miss Universe Organization as well as the Miss USA pageant. NBC also owns a part of the Organization and the Pageant as well. Conner hails from a small town in Kentucky called Russell Springs. She won the Miss USA crown in April and moved to New York. Since then she has been partying hard. She admitted that she was a frequent visitor of nightclubs and was drinking heavily -- despite being underage. She actually turned 21 on Monday. Trump indicated that Conner had told him that she had become caught up in the whirlwind that can be life in the Big Apple. He noted that it is a story that has happened many times in the past to many men and women who have come to New York City. After Trump made his announcement, Conner looked relieved and put on her famous "Miss USA" sash. Trump said that Conner will be entering in a rehab facility after the holiday season. The pageant said that the details of the rehab would be worked out privately. When she was asked is she thought she was an alcoholic, Conner said that she didn't think she was an alcoholic but she did say that she had pushed the envelope. Miss USA is a role model and is expected to behave in a proper manner. Underage drinking is not permitted, a spokesperson for the Miss Universe Organization stated. Trump did was that Conner would be able to move back into her apartment at the Trump Palace. He did note that is she messed up again, she could be fired. He said that Conner understood that if she made even the slightest mistake she would be replaced immediately. If Conner had been dethroned, Miss California Tamiko Nash (the first runner up) would have taken over the Miss USA title. Conner is blonde and 5' 5" and has been competing in pageants since she was four years old. Three months after winning the Miss USA pageant, Conner placed fourth in the Miss Universe contest. In 2002, Oxana Fedrova (who was Miss Russia) won the Miss Universe pageant but was stripped of her crown after violating her contract. Trump said that Fedorova failed to show up for charity events and photo shoots. It was the first time someone was removed as Miss Universe during the 50 year history of the pageant. |
