American rock singer Meat Loaf (real name Michael Lee Aday) celebrates his 60th birthday today. Despite some ups and downs in his music career (including several bankruptcies) he made some of the best selling albums and records in music history. His debut album "Bat out of Hell", which took Meat Loaf four years to make, sold over 37 million copies worldwide and keeps selling about 200,000 more copies annually.
Meal Loaf is also famous internationally, outside of US. In the 80s he has reached an iconic popularity in the United Kingdom and Germany, where he toured a lot.
To mark the 60th birthday of Meat Loaf, photoshop him any way you like. Some examples are: showing how Meat Loaf career might be different if he chose another profession or music genre; show how his music would fit the medieval times (in paintings), or photoshop Meat Loaf in the years to come.

| | Meat Loaf – Actual name Marvin Lee Aday - was born on September 27 1947 in Dallas (Texas) in family of Gospel singers - is American rock singer, working in Heavy Metal genre.
Marvin Lee Aday was born on September27, 1948 in Dallas (Texas state) in Gospel singers family. He got the nickname “Meatloaf” in childhood thanks to his build. According to one of the legends, football trainer of Marvin crushed his foot and screamed "Meat Loaf”!
In 1967, Meat moved to Los Angeles, where he formed his first band “Meat Loaf Soul”. The band recorded for "The Stooges", "Amboy Dukes", "The Who" and performed one single. At this time, Meat was offered a role in musical "Hairs" and thus, his second career as an actor took-off. When the band recorded in Detroit, Meat and his partner in “Hairs” released their combined album "Stoney & Meat Loaf". Inspite of the fact that Stoney and Loaf opened up for "Alice Cooper" & “Rare earth", but their single "What you see is what you get" reached the "Billboard" charts. But soon the duet separated and Meat went back to acting.
After rejoining the cast of Hair, Loaf was offered a role in musical "More than you desire" and the composer was Jim Steinman. Subsequently, their friendship blossomed and got more intimate. After Meat participated in the recording the lead vocals for Ted Nugent’s album "Free-for-all" & appeared in cult film "The rocky horror picture show", he was invited on show "Neverland" (Rock version of history about Peter Pan), produced by Jim Steinman.
Project evolved into an idea of creating an album and the pair approached Todd Rundgren, who produced the album. But the recording companies did not show interest in releasing the gramophone records and only after long toils, Steinman could make an agreement with "Epic", "Cleveland international". "Bat out of hell" was released in fall 1977 and Meat Loaf went on a tour in support of the record for "Cheap trick". However, the expected reaction did not come through and only after the release of gramophone record in England and clip of title song was aired, his career took-off. "Bat out of hell" reached 14 spot on "Billboard" ratings (9th spot in UK) and was in the charts for close to 90 weeks. Three following singles reached Top 40 and the album itself has become one of the most saleable releases of next decade.
Unfortunately, release of second gramophone record of Loaf got delayed much to the frustration of the artist. First, Meat Loaf fell off the stage and broke his leg. In the middle of recording his second album, Meat Loaf lost the ability to sing. As a result, Steinman decided to keep recording “Bad for Good” without Meat Loaf.
During the pause, created by his inability to sing, Meat played roles in movies but in 1981, he came back with "Dead Ringer", conquering the UK album charts. The next album was the first one, which Meat Loaf recorded without Jim Steinman. Nevertheless, "Midnight at the lost and found", as well as "Bad attitude" & "Blind before I stop" brought fairly enough popularity to the singer (To be fair, the major portion of popularity he received was in Europe than in America). However, due to alcohol abuse, health problems and bankruptcy, he was sidelined in the middle of 80s for several years.
Meat Loaf returned onto the stage only after renewing his friendship with Steinman and both began to work on "Bat out of hell" – "Back into hell". Comeback of Meat Loaf was greatest as the album was a huge success and occupied first spot in many countries including UK and US. Loaf released one more successful gramophone record (already without Jim Steinman). Once again, a long unending rest occurred in singer’s life. Only in 2003, singer made his fans happy by releasing a new album. Inspite of the fact that "Couldn't have said it better" did not reach the level of best works of "Meat Loaf", the audience accepted it highly and the album penetrated into many hit parades. Meat Loaf was so happy and rerecorded the classic "Bat out of hell" with Melbourne’s symphonic orchestra. |
