This contest is fueled by the following news: Iconic actress Marilyn Monroe's career as an actress spanned 16 eventful years. During that time period, she made 29 films. Indeed, 24 of her films were made during the first 8 years of her acting career. She was born and named Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles at General Hospital. He mother, Gladys, listed Marilyn's father's address as unknown. The actress would never know the true identity of her father. Her mother proved to be mentally unstable. This, together with the fact that she was unmarried when Marilyn was born, resulted in Marilyn being placed in the foster home of Albert and Ida Bolender. She lived in the Bolender household for the first 7 years of her life. Once she took up acting, and after taking on small roles for several years, she became known for her comedic talents, sex appeal, beauty and what proved to be a remarkable and enduring screen presence. She went on to become the most bankable star during much of the 1950s. Later during her career she worked on more serious roles with some degree of success. Disappointments in her personal life intensified what had been longstanding personal and emotional problems. The circumstances surrounding Marilyn's death in 1962 have been the subject of ongoing speculation and conspiracy theories. These have further solidified her reputation as one of the most legendary people of all time. In the end, Marilyn Monroe will always be remembered as one of the 21st century's most enduring legends and pop icons.
