| A street is usually two rows of houses and a space between them for movement. The street can have a special surfacing (a space between buildings is simply a parcel) and can be covered with any of the durable materials. During various time periods, wood, brick, stone and road metal were used for covering the roads. In the modern world, the most popular covering is asphalt.
One of the differences between the streets in comparison to street roads is the presence of pavements. Also, tram tracks pass along the streets and trees are planted along the center of the street, which is seldom seen on roads (for example, the road from Sochi leading to Adler: cypress trees grow along the middle of the road, approaching Adler).
Often, a street has one row of houses and can have a park, river coast or empty ground on the other side. A portion of the street may be without any constructions.
STREET TYPES:
Sea Boulevard — a street along the river or other large water body (for example, Pushkin Boulevard).
Side street — a small street often between two large streets (for example, the Chernigov side street).
Avenue — a straight length and broad-street in the city, besieged with greenery (Neva Avenue);
Boulevard — a street with benches, lawns and alleys, meant for pedestrian traffic and a rest for a short period.
Highway — a long and broad (as a rule, multi-lane) street with good road surfacing (in the beginning of the 20th century any asphalted road).
Some more street types are available, such as: descent, driveway, deadlock, lane and alley.
However, the names of streets and their types are quite conventional. Also the appearance of streets changes with the development of localities and new buildings. A side street for example can cease to be a side street but the name may not change.
In many streets, driving cars and motorcycles is prohibited and on other streets, one-way movement is permitted.
