This contest is fueled by the following news:
Barbara Steisand has announced that she has canceled her subscription to the Los Angeles Time. She cancelled her subscription to the paper following the firing of a liberal columnist. The paper dropped Robert Scheer and some other columnists during the past month. Scheer speculated that he was fired because of his political viewpoints. Scheer had been a columnis with the Times for twelve years before being terminated. He was a reporter for the paper for seventeen years before becoming a columnist. In a letter to the Times, Streisand stated that Scheer oftentimes was the singular voice of dissent and the writer of groundbreaking columns. She stated that it was Scheer who sustained her interest in the Times through the years. Streisand posted her letter at her website.
