Luciano Pavarotti, the former insurance salesman, said that his performance in the opera "Tosca" was his finale. After more than 40 years of performing, he is not regarded as perhaps the most beloved classical singer of all time. The production was staged at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Tickets to all 4,000 seats were sold. Indeed, it was on the stage of the Metropolitan that Pavarotti became known as the tenor with the magnificent smile -- and a belly to match. In an interview, Pavarotti confirmed what he said last year: This marks his last opera performance.
