| For generations, Leonardo da Vinci has been regarded as one of the best painters in history. Additionally, many consider him to be a truly brilliant engineer. Some might now consider him to be the father of the modern car. Recently, the Musem of History and Science in Florence, Italy, unveiled what they are calling the first automobile based on sketches that were made by da Vinci. The rather primitive looking "car" runs on springs rather than gasoline. It really does appear to be the world's first self propelled vehicle. Other items that have been found in da Vinci's famous sketch books have included helicopters, flying machines, military tanks, bicycles and submarines. Truly, a man before his time. |
