LOTR Celebrities
Contest Directions: "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit."
The author of the book that began with this brief sentence, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He eventually moved to England, where he became a gifted linguist and scholar, a University of Oxford professor, and husband and father beloved by wife and children. While still in his twenties, Tolkien started working on a series of stories that subsequently became the elaborate history of a place called Middle-earth and evolved into The Lord of the Rings epic high fantasy novel. Eventually the world of the Lord of the Rings was visited by millions of readers and moviegoers.
To celebrate the J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday at Freaking News, photoshop characters of The Lord of the Rings any way you wish, OR turn celebrities into LOTR characters. Think of how life would be different if professor Tolkien ruled the world.

  • Gollum Finds the Ring on Audi Car

Gollum Finds the Ring on Audi Car
        • SOS bring me home...no intelligent life here!
        • What I love about this entry:

          1) the concept - it's clever - the ring is taken from a modern element (Audi logo) and a modern element (Audi car) is mixed with the LOTR world. "Mix the unmixable" is a winning formula here

          2) The execution - perfect blending worthy of a cool poster to decorate any wall.

          3) The color pattern you chose here

          4) The dragon

          5) Frodo in Audi

My minor critique is two moons - probably one too many.

          Overall grade: FA (Freaking Awesome)

This contest is fueled by the following news: During a hike Bilbo Baggins and gnomes (see "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again") fall into the depths of the Misty Mountains, and the hobbit Bilbo, wandering around, finds the Ring of Power unexpectedly "lost" by Gollum in one of the goblin tunnels. Gollum meets Baggins and understands who found his "Precious." Bilbo barely avoids death, having put on the Ring by chance. As conceived by Tolkien, Bilbo Baggins, who has partially come under the Ring's power, deceives Gandalf and the dwarves - thus he says that he ostensibly "won" the Ring in "a game of riddles," when actually Bilbo found the Ring on the floor and didn't return it thereafter to the owner. On the other hand, hobbit Bilbo didn't kill Gollum, despite the fact that a few minutes earlier he had wanted to kill Bilbo, though the Ring's power of invisibility gave the hobbit this opportunity. The wizard Gandalf suspects that Bilbo's Ring is magical, but doesn't know its true power, fearing even to touch it. During the next three years, Gollum suffers unbearably without the Ring, and finally in 2944 of the Third Age goes to the surface and begins to search for the "thief." In his wanderings, Gollum for reasons not understood (possibly, at the summons of Sauron, the true owner of the Ring) attempts to get into Mordor, where he meets the monstrous spider Shelob and miraculously remains alive, having entered into an alliance with her and promised to furnish her with living victims. He spends the next 30 years searching for the Ring, sometimes returning to Shelob. At that time (T.A. 3001), Gandalf has a good idea what Ring Bilbo has, and protection of the Shire is increased. The wizard tries to find Gollum and asks Aragorn to help him. However, in 3009, Gollum falls into the hands of Sauron and under torture tells of the Ring and its location. Nine Nazguls leave Mordor and set off for the Shire. Following them, Gollum is released; Aragorn and Gandalf are able to catch him and for a while he is with the Elves of Mirkwood, but he manages to escape. He tracks down the Fellowship of the Ring in Moria and meets Frodo on February 29, 3019. Trying to take away the hobbits' Ring, Gollum attacks them in the open; however, the hobbits overpower him and force him to serve as its guard, having taken an oath in the name of the Ring to serve its then-owner Frodo. Nonetheless, Gollum doesn't give up attempts to take possession of his "Precious" and suggests that the hobbits lead them secretly into Mordor through the pass of Cirith Ungol, where the den of Shelob is also located. Thus, with the help of the monster, Gollum intended to make short work of the hobbits and take possession of the ownerless Ring for himself. But his plan failed, and Gollum himself survived only by a miracle. In Mordor, Gollum secretly followed Frodo and Sam to the volcano Orodruin (Mount Doom), waiting for a chance to seize the Ring. On T.A. March 25, 3019, the hobbits reached the chasm Sammath Naur near the volcanic neck. They intended to throw the Ring into the lava, but this turned out to be not so simple—any creature falls under the full power of the Ring and this can't be resisted. Moreover, you will inevitably die, as an Age ago it led to Isildur's death. Standing on the edge of the chasm, Frodo declared himself Lord of the Rings, but he was suddenly attacked by Gollum. In the fight, Gollum bit off his opponent's finger along with the Ring, but almost immediately, jumping for joy, fell into the chasm. The Ring fell into the lava of Orodruin and was destroyed. Gollum also perished. Obviously, Gollum was destined for such a fate for a long time: Gollum could come out unscathed from many dangerous situations; all "Light Heroes" spared him. Gandalf cautioned against killing Gollum; Faramir, who had become wise, also didn't kill this creature (having offered hobbit Frodo the opportunity to take care of this matter). And even Sam, who hated Gollum for his duplicity and treachery, left him alone, obeying Frodo's ban. Unknowingly, Gollum played a key role in the history of the War of the Ring.
