| Jon Voight (born December 29, 1938, in Yonkers, New York, USA)( full name – Jonathan Vincent Voight) is an American actor and the father of Angelina Jolie. He is the winner of an “Oscar” (1979), a “Golden Globe” (1970, 1979, and 1986) and a BAFTA (1970).
The most popular films in which he played roles: “Midnight Cowboy” (1969), “Mission: Impossible” (1996), “Enemy of the State” (1998), “Pearl Harbor” (2001), “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” (2001), “Transformers” (2007) & also “National Treasure” (2004) and “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” (2007).
Biography:
Jon Voight was born on December 29, 1938 in the small American city of Yonkers, New York State. He studied in The Catholic University of America in Washington and majored in fine arts. After graduating from university in 1960, he joined the New York school-studio “Neighborhood Playhouse”.
Jon Voight worked in musicals, in theatre and on TV. In 1967, he received the “Theatre World” award for acting in Frank Gilroy’s play “That Summer- That Fall”. He was invited to television and Jon became a television star thanks to the serials from 1963 to 1969 – “Naked City”, and the “The Defenders”.
Jon Voight’s debut film was in 1967. He at once received several awards for the role of Joe Buck (“Midnight Cowboy” (1969)): New York film critics, “The Golden Globe” and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), were presented to him as the most promising debutant. For the creation of the image of Luke Martin in the film “Coming Home” (1978), the actor received an “Oscar”, the “New York Film Critics” award, a “Golden Globe” and an award during the film festival in Cannes.
Personal Life:
In 1962, Jon Voight married Lauri Peters but divorced her in 1967. He married Marcheline Bertrand on December 12, 1971 but even this marriage lasted for only a few years up to 1978. Jon Voight has two children from his second marriage: a son - James Haven (1973) and a daughter –Angelina Jolie (1975). |
