| | Unbelievable. That is the word that some people attribute to this bit of news. When the Laurence Olivier Awards were handed out Sunday, a recent London theater sensation -- "Jerry Springer -- The Opera" -- took home four awards. The show is a "ribald" take on the American talk show starring Jerry Springer (in the talk show, that is). The book and lyrics were written by Richard Thomas and Stewart Lee. The music was by Thomas himself. The show actually has won best new musical. The awards are given annually by the Society of London Theater. "Springer" leading man, David Bedella, also took home the award for best active in a musical. Meanwhile, the show's chorus was given a collective award.
