| | A homeland security exhibition was held in Singapore this week - an event that would have left James Bond feeling right at home. Included in the items being exhibited was a sleek and dark armored truck that can shoot down an incoming missile. Also on display was the world's smallest V-satellite phone system as well as an ultra quiet boat engine - all things that 007 would be happy to use. Organizers of the event said that more than 150 different exhibitors from 16 different nations around the world took part in the Global Security Asia Conference that lasted for three days. The latest equipment and systems were showcased throughout the event.
Who is the Worst James Bond?
Dark-haired, tall and broad-shouldered Welsh Timothy Dalton, who on the 21st of March reached the age of 55 years, with unforgettable green eyes and typical dimple on the chin, did not too much strive for the role of Bond. He as a teenager already knew, what he wanted in life, and got good education in acting. He successfully played in Royal Shakespearean theater, and critics compared him with celebrities like Richard Burton. But he also could not resist the temptation of playing the role of a super agent. His characters of Bond in “The Living Daylights” (1987) and “License to Kill” (1989) bear many features of a matured actor like Dalton himself: sex and violence were at a minimum, he was practical with an absence of humor. At the same time, Dalton once again put life into the hero, by making him less dependent on technical tricks and special effects and gave him an internal pivot. Some appreciated this. For example, in the Bond Encyclopedia by Stephen Rubin it is said that Dalton has recreated Bond with what Fleming had imagined. “That Bond drank and killed only to burn out the poison in him, the poison of the cruelties of the world and its unbearable strains”. But the public took to him otherwise, having considered the character of Bond by Dalton as the most unsuccessful one. For producers it was quite imperative, and they refused the services of unduly independent actor. He was not disturbed by this at all and once again took to Shakespearean theater.
It seems that in the personal life of this staunch bachelor, as people knew Timothy Dalton, he underwent imminent changes. Five years ago at a friend’s party, he met a 25-year-old Ukrainian girl Oksana Grigoreva. A pianist by trade, she worked in London as a model. Witnesses say that Timothy and Oksana fell in love with each other at first sight. In 1997, she gave birth to a son. Dalton has declared, that he is very happy from the fatherhood, and, according to friends, they are planning to get married.
