| | On Saturday, Iraqi officials announced that they are contemplating new measured to protect voters in that country during the national election to be held on January 30th. These measures will include a nationwide ban on driving to discourage car bombing incidents. There have been fresh cases in the northern city of Mosul where many of the election officials have left their jobs out of fear. U.S. and Iraqi governmental officials are fearful that insurgent attacks may disrupt the election process. Members of the Sunni Arab minority in the country are expected to boycott the election to a large degree. Moreover, Sunni rebel groups have threatened attacks on polling stations in Iraq.
