This contest is fueled by the following news: In a Massachusetts forest, a new species of beetle never before found in North America has been discovered. The Asian insect does not appear to pose any sort of ecological threat, experts have indicated. 22 beetles belonging to the Xyleborus seriatus species of ambrosia beetle were found in April in beetle traps that were set by forestry workers in Southborough. Southborough is about 25 miles west of Boston. Two or Three more of the beetles were trapped in nearby Stow. The insects, after being trapped, were sent to Cornell University for examination and study. Some experts believe that the insects may have literally hitchhiked to the United States on wooden crates from Asia.
