| | This week puts the resolution to a long discussion between the
government and the lawmakers about the immigration issue on how to deal with the millions of
illegal immigrants who are already in the United States and have no
intentions to return to their home countries. Both sides came to a
compromise resolution which will be revised into a bill.
The immigration discussion started months ago when U.S. president George W. Bush
suggested to give limited work and residence permits to illegal
aliens, calling it "guest worker" program, and reasoning that these
people do the low paying jobs that most Americans will not agree for
at this low hourly wage. The proposed bill will put more financial and
man resources to securing the border, while will give working visa to
all illegal immigrants who "turn themselves in," pay the fees and a
fine of $3,500. Such foreigners will thus be legalized and can become
U.S. citizens within three to twelve years. Most democrats call this
bill nothing else but amnesty which will bring a burden to United
states and a wave of new immigrants who will wish receive American
citizenship. George W. Bush and most republicans think this is a
reasonable solution, while "sealing" the borders will keep the flow of
new illegal aliens from entering the United States, thus keeping the
the immigration under control. Those who want to immigrate, should
come to America with clean intentions, valid passport, and go through
the application procedure to become American citizens legally, not via
the dirty means of amnesty and "guest worker program," said the
democratic leaders. |
