|  Immigration adovates came together by the thousands and marched through downtown Los Angeles in one of the largest demonstrations for any cause at all in U.S. history. More than 500,000 people marched to demand that Congress abandon attempts to make illegal immigration a felony. The size of the crowd surprised the police and other officials. The Senate is to take up the hot button issue of immigration this week with President Bush coming down on the side of letting the 11 million people illegally in the United States remain in the country in some fashion. Bush has plans to use a naturalization ceremony for swearing in 30 new citizens to announce his plans for a guest worker program. He has stressed that people need to remember that many, many people who are illegally in the country are hardworking individuals. He maintains that they are vital to the economy of the country, the President said in his weekly radio address. |
