I don't see this as a 'Feeble Attempt' at all. This is actually very good. If you added some darkening under his right arm, and mute the colors of the guitar just a bit to match the surroundings...it'd be perfect. Just trying to give some helpful advice. I'll reserve my vote until editing can be done, if you wish to do some.

JannaR is right about the colors. The fretboard, tuning keys and nameplate are too bright for Degas, and need to tone down and warm up.

very nice but i agree with JannaR and Alligator. The guitar is a bit too bright for the surroundings.
