Halloween Movies
Contest Directions: As Halloween is getting closer, movie theaters are offering little horror this weekend. Movie companies blame low consumer spending power and general decline in demand for horror movies. Looks like Hollywood needs to ask Fed for a special Halloween bail out.
To compensate for a lack of good horror movies this Halloween season, take any movie and give it a Halloween theme.

This contest is fueled by the following news: Halloween is one of the oldest festivals in the world. In this strange festival, the traditions of Celtic celebration in the honor of evil spirits intertwined with the Christian tradition of worshiping the saints. The history of Halloween dates back to thousands of years starting from the Celtic festival Samhain, Roman's "Pomona Day" and Christian's "All Saints Day". Centuries ago, the land of contemporary Great Britain and Northern France was inhabited by Celtic tribes. They were pagans and worshiped the Sun as the supreme god. Celts divided the year into two parts - winter and summer. During the winter, the Sun god was in captivity of Samhain, lord of the dead and the prince of darkness. The Samhain Festival, which was celebrated on November 1 - was a period, when the winter started. During this period, summer gave way to winter, day to night, life - to death and all the barriers between the material and the supernatural worlds were removed and the gates were opened between them for one night. During this period, all unfulfilled hopes and plans of the dead once again returned to earth and their souls went to their homes. The souls of the dead could take many guises, evil spirits enter into the animals and the most dangerous - into cats. On this day, all evil spirits descend to the ground. If somebody really wants to see a witch, this is the right way to do so - go outside at midnight dressed as a topsy-turvy and move backwards. Enjoy the encounter! On the intervening night of October 31 and November 1, the Druids - spirits of nature - assembled in oak groves on the hill tops (Celts believed oak trees to be sacred trees), lit bonfires and brought sacrifices to appease the evil spirits. And in the morning, the Druids gifted the coals of their fires to people, so that the people could light hearths in their homes with them. The fire of the druids warmed the house during the long winter and protected the house from evil spirits. At night, the girls were interested in fortune-telling. One can throw two chestnuts in the fire of the druids. If the chestnuts burn next to each other, the girl will live in peace and harmony with the lover and if the chestnuts roll out into different directions - their paths diverge into different directions. A girl could see her future husband by sitting in front of a mirror with an apple in her hand at midnight. If the candle falls onto the floor, it was considered a bad omen. Celts believed "Evil spirits try to extinguish the fire in the house". In the beginning of our era, Romans conquered the Celtic territory bringing the traditions and festivals along with them. On the intervening night of 31 October and 1 November, they celebrated the Pomona Day - Goddess of fruitful abundance. In the 14th century, when Christianity spread in the UK, these ancient traditions blended with one more festival the Catholic's "All Saint's Day" - All Hallows Even or All Hallows Eve. Later, people started calling it Hallowe'en and in the end, it became "Halloween". Today, a set of exciting traditions were left from the ancient pagan festival. On this night, it is customary to dress up in costumes of evil spirits and organize masquerades. According to general opinion, never miss a rare chance to feel like a witch or a demon. An essential symbol of Halloween is the pumpkin head. The interior portion of the pumpkin is removed and it is cut in the shape of a face and a candle is lit inside the pumpkin. The pumpkin symbolizes both the end of harvest as well as the end of an evil spirit with fire frightening it. It is so strange to find old beliefs concentrating in one object. On this night, children knock at doors shouting: "Treat or trick"!. If somebody does not offer them some gifts, these little evil demons will play a cruel joke on you, for instance, smear the door handles with soot. It is a pity that the ancient meaning of Halloween is being forgotten through these fun-filled items. Halloween is an intriguing mystery with its mystic significance. This festival is an attempt to understand the connection between our world and other worlds. Halloween is a transition, a gate from one world to the other. These gates, like any other, are paradoxical. Those who are located between two worlds, belong to any of the world and at the same time, to both the worlds and to none of them. Samhain is the gateway to winter. We still tend to think of winter tas being hostile and disgusting. It seems, that every living thing dies. However, the arrival of death, by definition, is the arrival of life. The White Desert, where the Samhain lives, is extraordinarily beautiful. It is free from all extra and superficial things. His time - it's time to reset the load of concerns and vanities, that have accumulated over the summer and lost its value, following the example of the trees, which shed the leaves that have lived their period. After all, if the trees do not shed them, then the dead leaves do not give them an opportunity to blossom with new leaves again in the spring. Legend says that Samhain opens the gateway to the past and future on this night. Two rudiments are available in the present. This is the time, when a person is not limited to the cell of his time and can understand his place in the web of eternity. However, the transition into another space or time is usually painful. The gates are guarded well. Witches and demons - heroes of Halloween - shadow guardians of the gate. On our side of life, they seem to be frightening evils. But if the gates are crossed, whom shall we see looking back? I think people, wearing masks during the Halloween.
