| | A guitarist is a musician who plays guitar. Professional guitarists can perform solo items or perform as a part of music bands or groups in a wide range of musical genres. In a music band, a guitarist can fulfill the role of rhythm guitar (playing in accord with the bass) or solo guitars (playing melodic parts over the bass). Also, the guitarist can play on guitar simultaneously while singing. Guitarists play on many variants of guitars, for example, acoustic, electric, classical and bass.
As of today, it is possible to find tens of subtypes of acoustic and semi-acoustic guitars in the market but conditionally, they are divided into three groups:
1. Flat top - usual folk guitar with metal strings;
2. Classical - classical guitar with nylon strings;
3. Arch top - jazz guitar; with respect to shape, it resembles the augmented violin with cuts along the edges of decks.
In our days, acoustics once again won over the world. Perhaps people got satiated with the abundance of electric sound and they are drawn towards the live sound of acoustics or maybe, it is easier and more convenient in our crazy times to carry a single guitar instead of a whole set of electronic components. The fact is - the “Unplugged” show, where MTV invites popular groups and asks them to play only live music is gaining popularity.
