A study from that group has found that the average personal computer requires ten times its weight in chemicals and fossil fuels to produce. Many of these chemicals are toxic. In addition, the use of fossil fuels contributes to global warming. Finally, the relatively short lifetime of computer equipment has resulted in mountains of waste material.
