This contest is fueled by the following news: There were six surveillance cameras that easily were seen protruding out from the awning in front of a fast food restaurant. A supersized, domed version that looked a flying saucer was hovered outside Columbia University. To the utter dismay of many civil libertarians, and with the approval of law enforcement, surveillance cameras have been multiplying at an alarming rate all over Manhattan. The New York City Liberties Union enlisted a dozen college interns to locate different surveillance cameras and to make certain that the cameras were not encroaching on privacy and whether they are, in fact, effectively combating crime and even terrorism. Surveillance cameras played a role in the London bombing investigations.
