|  Modern goths have been mocked about their makeup and giggled over the gloom that surrounds them. However, gothic teens are now taking over the company. It has become every parent's nightmare. An apparently well adjusted child will suddenly come home with hair the color of coal and a face as while as cotton. Nonetheless, according to a new study, parents of goths probably end up boasting about their son or daughter who is a doctor or lawyer or a bank manager -- who is also gothic. This is the surprising finding Sussex University's Dunja Brill has made. She has a doctorate in media and cultural studies and has looked closely at gothic culture. She has concluded that most youth subcultures encourage people to drop out of school and then do illegal things. The same is not true for goths, however, according to her study. Most gothic teens are well educated. They rarely drop out of school and are often the top pupils in class. The gothic culture encourages an interest in classical education, particularly in the arts. Goths are likely to pursue careers in such areas a web design, computer programming and the arts. And, as has been mentioned, they are also entering many professions ... including dentistry. There is even a Church of England priest who is a goth. |
