This contest is fueled by the following news: Because it is one of the best known search engines on the Net today, Google can take liberties with its branding. For example, on holidays, the Google moniker appears with seasonal festive outfitting. In a creative showcasing of the Google brand, an examination is made of the Google homepage where the brand name is spelled out in Braille. Of course, few people actually can read what the Braille spells. But, there is still little confusion as to what the brand is being set forth. Google as created a unique niche for itself in the online industry. As a result, it can take liberties with its brand that other companies simply cannot. Some of the Google Services & Tools: * Chromium - Web browser with open source code, developed by Google. * Google Chrome - browser, developed by Google on the basis of the free browser Chromium, which is equipped with paid elements and components, responsible for collection of information on visited pages. * Google Code - site for developers, who are interested in development of open software, related with Google products. Site contains source codes and list of their services with public API. * Project Hosting - free specialized hosting of GPL-projects and other free projects. * Google Pack - installation package, combining packages of Google products (Google Earth, Picasa, Google Desktop etc) and several third-party products (Mozilla Firefox, Adobe Reader etc). * Google Deskbar - installs Google search on desktop. * Google Desktop a search engine on a user's computer. The program is installed locally and indexes email messages, text documents, MS Office documents, discussions from AOL Instant Messanger, history of changes in the web browser, PDF documents, music files, images and video files. * Google Earth - model of Earth planet, created with the help of satellite pictures. * Picasa - program for working with digital photographs, integrated with Google Blogger and Gmail. * Hello - add-in to Picasa program, which allows users to share photographs with friends without using the web site or email. Images are sent directly from one client to another. * Google Toolbar - extension for browsers Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, which is a Google search engine panel and carrying out set of other additional functions. * Google Web Accelerator - program, which accelerates the functioning of browser by caching and preliminary downloading of information, which may be of some interest to the user. The program uses a proxy server belonging to Google. Hardware: * Google Search Appliance - this is a hardware/software solution, meant for corporate intranet networks. This device carries out periodic inspection and indexing of document ( in basic mode up to 500 000 documents) for search on internal or external corporate websites or other resources, accessible through web. * Google Mini - mini version of Search Applicable, which is called Google Mini and meant for small and medium level companies. Basic model of the device indexes 100 000 documents. Two more models, estimated for indexing 200 000 and 300 000 documents, were offered in January 2006. Furthermore, the model for 50000 documents was announced on March 2, 2006. Search engine: * Google - major search engine, which belongs to Google Inc. First in the popularity list (79.65%), it processes 41 billion 345 million query's in a month ( 62.4 % market share), indexes more than 25 billion web pages and can find information on 191 languages ( from October 15, 2009). The search engine supports documents in the following formats: PDF, RTF, PostScript, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and others. Indexing of sites: The Google search engine has User Agent - Googlebot (search engine), which is the primary engine, which scans the content of pages for the search index. Apart from this, there are several other specialized search engines: * Googlebot -Mobile - engine, which indexes the sites for mobile devices. * Google Search Appliance (Google) gsa-crawler a search engine of new development packages Search Appliance. * Googlebot-Image - engine, which scans the pages for indexing the images. * Mediapartners-Google - engine, which scans the page contents for determining the AdSense content. * Adsbot-Google - engine, which scans the content for evaluating the quality of target pages of AdWords. There exists a theory of the "sandbox effect", which states that the sites with new domain names and frequent change of owners or name servers are placed in a "sandbox" (waiting zone) and are kept in the waiting zone till the Google mechanism feels that the site is ready. There also exists an inverse theory, which is called the "novice bonus", in which during the initial indexing of a site, on the strength of some aspects (for instance, several links from authority resources), the site is immediately assigned a high PageRank and a good place in the search results. After some time, the site is assigned its real indicator after the withdrawal of this effect.
