Gas prices in the United States are expected to reach record highs during the spring or summer. This will occur when motorists will hit the roads for vacations. Costs for crude oil already have caused pump prices to jump. NYMEX gasoline futures prices are a benchmark for most of the wholesale gasoline that is traded in the United States. One OPEC official has stated that $80 per barrel crude oil was a possibility.
