| | Many people contend that we are living in the golden age of the gadget. If you don't happen to believe so, check your pockets. Odds are solid that you are carrying a portable music player, an electronic organizer, a keychain sized storage device, a digital camera or a cell phone that combines some of all of these various functions. The folks at PC World maintain that they would be lost without these items. They contend that they do not only write about digital gear, but they rely on the stuff for personal and professional purposes. The editors of PC World were asked to name the top fifty gadgets of the last fifty years. The poll involved small items -- nothing large like a car or a big screen television set. The editors were asked to rate and rank gadgets based on usefulness, degree of innovation, design and influence on subsequent gadgets. They were also asked to consider the cool factor of individual gadgets. |
