There are various forms of humor: paradox, irony, oxymoron or word-play, wit, parody, satire, sarcasm and so on.
Humor has various literary forms — anecdote or joke, monologue, dialogue, story, word play, witty answer to interlocutor, to the place of told aphorism and so on. Except the text form, humor can also be presented in the graphic form —caricature (cartoon), drawing, photo, etc. Special kind of humor represents itself as black humor. In some nationalities, form of humor such as folk oral humorous narrations exists — snoave.
Psychology of humor:
Sense of humor is the ability of person to understand the humor. It gives self-confidence and optimism to the person. In extreme cases, humor leads to superiority feeling and authority over object of humiliation.
Tool of humor is joke. Usually well conceived joke releases stress, despondency or fear. Most probably, mainly for this purpose, the nature has made the person with the ability to joke. However, if the joke is told in name of any person, it can bring not only joy but is also an act of aggression since the person can see ill-intentioned insult and humiliation. Therefore, jokes are usually allowed only in relation to well familiar people, who receive it as demonstration of trust to themselves, giving chance to look at themselves from the critical point of view. In this case, relations of people become even stronger. In opposite case, joke especially told in public, is received as personal insult and promotes occurrence of aversions between people.
Not all, value of humor is belittled - it seems ridiculous as the sense of humor can come into conflict with other feelings. For example, each person or nationality has expensive and sacred things for them, but jokes over which are perceived with hostility as it is a subject of their pride and adoration. In that case, the pleasure from laughter is outweighed by unpleasant feeling of the wounded pride. Other example - when the joke is too severe and directed against obviously weak and defenseless objects, which do not pose threats to anybody. In majority of people, such joke causes pity towards the object of humiliation and also aversion towards the joker.
According to the above-mentioned reasons, laughter can be both malicious and kind. The same can be attributed to the joker. |
