| | The majority of frogs and toads lay eggs in water or nearby and leave them without supervision. However, some kinds care for them. So, the male of the Suriname toad lays eggs in the skin cells on the back of the female. Fully formed toads come out of the eggs. Males are (Rhinoderma darwinii) vaquero and hence store eggs in aspecial throat bag. When young frogs emerge and also grow up, they throw out the vaquero. The poison dart frogs transfer tadpoles from the egg hatching place. The arrow-poison frog places each tadpole at a height on a tree in plants, filled with water - a unique and absolutely safe swimming pool for the growing generation. Once a week, the female feeds the posterity with eggs, from which the tadpoles were not hatched yet. Poisonous animals are those which produce toxic substances not only for the purpose of killing its prey but also for protecting its life. The specified poison dart frogs and also the arrow-poison frogs living in Southern and Central America, produce deadly toxins in the world. The skin secretion of the golden colored poison dart frog from the western part of Colombia is the most dangerous of them.
The ability to fly is the capability to rescue itself from enemies, developed in the course of evolution by some kinds of tree frogs. They have long, spread fingers with webs between them. These tree frogs are capable of changing the direction of flight by moving the limbs and plan for a distance of up to 12 m. With respect to self-protection capabilities, the African moor frog does not lag behind. The capabilities of the members of this frog family can jump for longer distances and human beings used this in sport competitions under the name “Frog Derby”. The frog with the nickname “Sanjthy” became world champion of the triple jump during the championship, held in the resort Lurula-Natal (South Africa) in 1977. Its record was 10.3 m.
Very few people know about the special talents of survival of these amphibians. In 1835, John Braton from Coventry saw how a block of sandstone collapsed from a platform onto the ground and broke along the center. A frog jumped out from the cavity of the block. The mummified body of a frog, found in 1899 inside silicon rock in the stone quarries of Lewes (UK), became an unusual exhibit of the Booth museum in Brighton. In 1906 in Brusly, Shropshire, workers dug a clay bed at a two-meter depth and found a live small toad in it.
