| The Frisbee is known to common folk as just a flying saucer or disk. Respectively the flying disk is the same as a Frisbee.
The history of Frisbee started as early as in the beginning of last century, when students tossed pie tins belonging to the Frisbee Pie Company. At the end of the 40’s, Walter Morrison created the first plastic flying disk. In 1957, Wham –O patented the word “Frisbee” as its own.
Types of sports with the flying disc:
The most popular sport all over the world is Ultimate Frisbee, a team game (5-7 players in each in team). Also very popular is Disc Golf where it is needed to hit the aim in a minimum of attempts, and Double Disc Court (DDC), a game with 2x2 discs. The popular sport among four-footed sportsmen is Dog Frisbee.
Every body remembers when as a girl we twisted a hoop around our waist. Now we reached adulthood and took that old hoop away. We parted with our childhood, but not with our dreams: We, like before, dream about a beautiful slender body and smooth skin. There is a simple way to make the dream real. The way we used in our childhood - that is the Hula-hoop, which is a combination of words: hula is a Polynesian dance, hoop is an English word. From that time a lot changed including the hoop itself. Todays modern sport stores have various models of hula-hoops.
The widespread hoops are:
1) Ordinary hoop. This hula-hoop can be iron or polyethylene, but hollow inside. Our moms and grannies used this one
2) Portable hula-hoop. Made like an ordinary hoop but folded into twice, some models can be folded fourfold. Very convenient if there is no enough place for storing it.
3) Weighted hula-hoop. This hoop weighs abut 0.5 to 2kg. This type of Hula-hoop more intensively massages the waist and thigh areas, and also provides an extra workout. We can cut an ordinary hula-hoop, weight that with peas or sand, and later seal the hula-hoop with adhesive.
4) The Hula-Hoop with massaging elements. Its surface is pegged with suckers. They would stick in or stick out to the body as you twist the hoop.
5) The Hula-Hoop with a meter. A small meter working on finger-sized batteries is fixed to the hoop. It gives out the number of twists and spent calories. But it can be very much inaccurate because this hoop considers only the time and twists, but not your age and weight.
Plus points in playing with a hula-hoop: It trains the cardiovascular system. When you go up to the second floor, do you have a shortness of breath and the heart is wallowing out of your chest? Then with such an untrained body you should not do power or dancing aerobics.
Take a hoop into your hands. Put forth abdominal muscles and loin, and try to keep in that same position throughout the exercise. By moving the body, legs and neck we compel the hoop to twist around the waist and thighs. But don’t forget that everything is in your own hands. As soon as you start your way to your ideal shape, you will reach it quickly. |
This week America bids farewell to Richard Knerr, whose company Wham-O made many "legendary" American toys including Frisbee and Hula Hoop. Knerr died at the age of 82 this Monday at his home in Arcadia, California.
