Nice work. Maybe you should lower the opacity (or try a different Blend Mode) of the flag to get more texture of the flower.

But when I lowered the opacity on the stripes, it seemed too much like an overlayed object. I used the pen tool to draw out the stripes by hand, and then Hue/Sat tool to remove the Red and then upped the Contrast to add white color and still keep "some" part of the rose's surface texture. If you look toward the center you can see a little of the texture, but as you go out, the camera blur on the source image made realism a bit harder to acheive. Thanks for the critiqe, by the way. I want to push myself this summer.

I usually use Replace color for that. Look at the shoes I used for my entry. I changed from red to White in several steps, picking just a small range of the reds at the time. I like the Replace Color because it really preserves the textures.
