| A fishing boat overturned on Friday off the western coast of Kamchatka.
9 fishermen in the boat went missing. This incident occurred at 6.25pm (local time) in the Sobolev region near Kirovsky village.
“Nine fishermen were pulling out a seine net when the fishing boat overturned and capsized” according to the Department of Information of the Russian Ministry of Disaster management. The fate of fishermen is not yet known.
The boarder patrol ship “Antias” is in the area of the accident. Due to the soak the ship cannot approach the capsized the fishing boat (the depth in this area is about 5-6m). The wind speed in the accident area now is 18 meters per second and the wave height up to 3 meters; this makes the rescue teams work difficult. Due to severe weather conditions the chopper also can not participate yet in rescue operations
The Regional Central administration and prosecutor’s office have been informed about the mishap. The fishing boat was located near by a seine net of a company, fishing salmon half a mile off the coast. The Captain of the trawler also located in the disaster area informed the district officials.
