| | In many countries world wide, Father’s Day is celebrated on third Sunday of June month.
But, celebrating the Father’s Day was started in America. In 1909, woman by name Sonora Smart, who is married to Sonora Smart Dodd, during the sacred worship in church, devoted to Mother’s Day, has thought that after the death of mother, her father, William Jackson Smart, has brought up her and five more children.
Sonora wanted that her father knew how special person he was for her and how much she loves and appreciates him. After all, her father endowed everything to fulfill all parental duties and was most courageous, unselfish and loving person in the opinion of his daughter.
Sonora contacted local authorities with the offer to introduce a new holiday and her idea was supported. They planned to celebrate the holiday on 5th June, which was birthday of William Smart, but the holiday was postponed to 19th June since they did not had sufficient time for preparations. Soon, the holiday became popular and also in other cities of state.
So, Father’s Day originated as expression of love and gratitude, which the daughter devoted towards the father. Roses - flowers of Father’s Day: People take red roses if the father is alive and white roses, if the father is no more.
After the USA, Great Britain, Netherlands, France, China and other countries began to celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June month.
In 2008, Father’s Day falls on 15th June. |
