| In many countries world wide, Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June.
Celebrating Father's Day was started in America. In 1909, a woman by the name of Sonora Smart, who was married to Sonora Smart Dodd, during the sacred worship in church devoted to Mother's Day, thought that after the death of mother, her father, William Jackson Smart, brought up her and five more children.
Sonora wanted her father to know what a special person he was for her and how much she loved and appreciated him. After all, her father endowed everything to fulfill all parental duties and was most courageous, unselfish and a loving person in the opinion of his daughter.
Sonora contacted local authorities with the offer to introduce a new holiday and her idea was supported. They planned to celebrate the holiday on the 5th of June, which was the birthday of William Smart, but the holiday was postponed to the 19th of June since they did not have sufficient time for its preparation. Soon, the holiday became popular and also in other cities of the state.
So, Father's Day originated as an expression of the love and gratitude, which the daughter devoted towards her father. Roses are the flowers of Father's Day: People take red roses if the father is alive and white roses, if the father is no more.
After the USA, Great Britain, Netherlands, France, China and other countries began to celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June.
In 2008, Father's Day falls on the 15th of June.
