|  Beyond ringing in the New Year, there was more to celebrate that the ball dropping at Times Square. Indeed, the event marked the first time that Dick Clark made his first television appearance since suffering a stroke late in 2004. Clark was to be found sitting behind a desk with a street scene in the background. Although he sounded a bit hoarse, and was a bit hard to understand at times, he did say that he would not have missed the New Year's event for all of the world. He also noted that the stroke left him in bad shape, indicating that he had to learn to walk and talk all over again. Clark started the New Year's Rockin Eve in 1972. He missed the event for the first time following his stroke; Regin Philbin acted as his emergency substitute. |
