Howard Dean, who is the new national Chairman of the Democratic Party, has promised (in a news conference on Saturday) to rebuild the party in the most conservative regions of the United States. He promised to work to develop state and local organizations to aid the party in future elections. Further, he promised to allow Congressional Democrats that ability to take the leadership role on policy. Dean was elected on a voice vote at the winter meeting of the party. He is a proven fundraiser and organizer, although he can be caustic and blunt in making some controversial statements.
