Biography:
Childhood & education. Beginning of political career:
Cameron was born in a family of stockbroker of aristocratic origin & a direct descendant of English King William IV & his mistress Dorothea Jordan. David Cameron passed out from Eton College & Oxford University, where he studied politics, philosophy & economy. In Oxford, Cameron made friends with Boris Johnson (presently -Mayor of London).
After graduating from Oxford University, Cameron started working in Conservative Research Department, where he prepared speeches for John Major and economic issues. In 1993, Cameron joined Ministry of Internal Affairs (Home Office). During 1997 elections, Cameron was selected for Stafford but suffered defeat in the elections.
During 2001 elections, Cameron was elected as member of House of Commons from Witney in Oxfordshire. In 2005, after Michael Howard’s resignation, under whom the Conservative Party lost the General Elections, Cameron was elected as Leader of Conservative Party in third ballot. Under his leadership, party rose considerably through the support from voters- against the backdrop of fall of Labor Party’s ratings.
In the first round of pre-election debates in spring 2010, according to results, Cameron lost to Nick Clegg, leader of Liberal Democrats, but David Cameron had the last laugh winning with overwhelming majority. .
Head of the government:
In the evening of May 11, 2010, Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced his resignation from the posts of Head of the State & leader of Labour party & submitted his resignation from the Prime Minister’s post to the Queen. The same evening, Queen invited David Cameron to form the government since Conservative Party of David Cameron has most number of mandates during General Elections, held on May 6, 2010 (but Conservative Party did not have overwhelming majority in parliament); Cameron intimated his intention to form ruling coalition with Liberal Democrats.
For the first time in post-war history of Britain, coalition government was formed on May 12, 2010. Leader of Liberal Democrats Nick Clegg held the post of Dy. Prime Minister.
David Cameron became youngest Prime Minister of Great Britain at the age of 43 only after Earl of Liverpool in 1812, when Liverpool was made Prime Minister at the age of 42.
Family & Life style:
Before his premiership, David Cameron usually reached his office on bicycle; however, in 2006, he was convicted with the charges that his things were brought by the driver in a car behind David Cameron.
Since 1996, David Cameron is married to Samantha Sheffield (born 1971), representative of an aristocratic family & descendant of King Charles II and his popular mistress Nell Gwyn. Camerons have two children; first child died at the age of seven years.

His father, Ian Donald Cameron, was stockbroker & direct descendant of king William IV (1765-1837) of Great Britain. David’s mother, Mary Fleur Mount, was daughter of baronet, some of her grandfathers & ancestors were members of parliament from Tory Party.
Cameron began his political career on September 26, 1988, having got a job in Conservative Research Department of Conservative Party of Great Britain, which developed the Party’s strategies & prepared briefings for parliamentary debates. In 1991, Cameron became head of the political section of research department.
After victory of conservatives in 1992 elections, Cameron was made Special Advisor to Chancellor of the Exchequer, Norman Lamont. In June, 1993, David Cameron was transferred as special advisor in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Great Britain (Home office), where was responsible for briefings of minister Michael Howard, future leader of Conservative Party. In July, 1994 Cameron left the post of Special Advisor & held the post of Director for corporate Affairs of TV company “Carlton Communications”. Cameron managed to receive rights on digitial terrestrial television for Carlton Communicatons. In February 2001, Cameron left the firm so as to particpate in parliamentary elections.
After three unsuccessful attempts to be elected to the House of Commons (1994, 1997 & 2000), David Cameron won the by-election from Witney, Oxfordshire in 2001. After his election in House of Commons, Cameron headed special committee on internal affairs - visible post, especially for young members of parliament. Cameron actively participated in debates & became popular as good orator. In July 2003, Cameron became a member of “Shadow Cabinet ministers" & occupied the post of deputy to Eric Forth, shadow leader of the House of Commons. In November 2003, after Smith’s exit from the post of chairman of the party, Cameron became the vice-chairman of the party with new leader of conservatives - Michael Howard. In May 2005, Cameron became the shadow Minister for Education.
David Cameron is married. He has two children. David likes to cook, takes great interest in tennis, riding, hunting & football. |
