| Dan Rather is calling it quits. He has announced plans to retire from CBS News and bring to an end a journalism career that has lasted over 24 years. He will be on the air at CBS for the last time on Wednesday, which is six months after he apologized for an error filled report on President Bush's military service. Rather will not be leaving journalism completely. He will work on some special stories for CBS. Rather first came to national attention on November 22, 2963, when he was a CBS correspondent in Dallas, Texas, on the day President John Kennedy was assassinated. He was on the frontlines in Vietnam and reported some of the major stories of the past generation. |
