| Salvador Dali will be honored on the occasion of his birthday with different exhibitions. This year, Dali would have been 100 had he lived. The exhibitions will be held in Barcelona and are sponsored by the La Caixa Foundation. A whole series of exhibitions actually will be held around the world, everywhere from the United States to the Netherlands. The Barcelona gallery will display some 400 items of Dali's work.
Included in them are the following Dali paintings:
"Retrospective bust of the woman" (1933)
A surrealistic subject. Despite the huge bread and cobs - fertility symbols, Salvador as though underlines the price to which all it is given: on the face of the woman full n away by ants.
"The woman with a head from roses" (1935)
The head from roses is mostly a tribute to Archimboldo, to the artist hotly favored by surrealists. Long before the avant-guard occurrence as it is a painted portrait of court gentlemen, using vegetables and fruit for their drawings (a nose-eggplant, hair from wheat and so forth). It (as well as Bosch) was something like the surrealist to surrealism.
"Soft Construction with Boiled Beans" (Premonition of the Civil War) (1936)
Written as well in the same year "Autumn Cannibalism", it is a picture of the horror of the Spaniard understanding that occurs in its country and where it moves. This painting is similar to "Guernica" by the Spaniard Pablo Picasso.
"Solar table" (1936) and "The Poetry of America" (1943)
When advertising had entered into the life of everyone, Dali sorts to it for the creation of special effects, such as unostentatious cultural shocks. In the first painting, he accidentally drops on the sand a pack of cigarettes (CAMEL), and in the second - uses the "Coca-Cola" bottle.
"Venus Milosskaya with boxes" (1936)
The most known Dalian subject. The idea of boxes is present and in his painting.
"The Slave Market with Disappearing Bust of Voltaire" (1938)
One of the most known "optical" pictures of Dali in which he skillfully plays with color associations and sight angles. Other extremely well known works of a similar sort is "Gala, looking at the Mediterranean Sea", from a distance of twenty meters turns to a portrait of Abraham Lincoln (1976).
"Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening" (1944)
The sensation of ease and the instability of an event are inherent in this bright picture. In the background is a long-legged elephant. He/she is the character there and is in other works, like "The temptation of St Anthony" (1946).
Naked Dali, beholding five ordered bodies, turning to corpses from which it is unexpectedly made into Leda Leonardo, impregnated by Gala’s face (1950)
One of many pictures related to the period during Salvador’s engagement with physics. It breaks images, subjects and persons into spherical corpuscles or rhinoceros horns (one more obsession shown in diary records). And if as an example of the first reception there is "Galatea with spheres" (1952) or the given picture on the second "Explosion of a head of Raphael" (1951).
Corpus hypercubus is a painting representing the crucifixion of Christ. Dali addresses religion (and also mythologies, as an example to that the Colossus of Rhodes (1954) and writes bible plots in his own way, introducing in pictures a considerable share of mysticism. His wife Gala becomes the indispensable character now of the "religious" pictures. Nevertheless, Dali does not limit himself and allows writing enough provocative things. Such, as "Young Virgin Auto-Sodomized by the Horns of Her Own Chastity" (1954).
"The Last Supper" (1955)
The famous painting showing one of the bible scenes. Many researchers argue till now on the value of the so-called "religious" period in Dali’s creativity. The pictures "Gvadalupean Mother of god" (1959), "Opening of America by effort of a dream of Christopher Columbus" (1958-1959) and "the Universal cathedral" (1960) (on which Dali painted himself) - are bright representatives of painting of that time.
The "Last Supper” is one of the most surprising paintings of the master. Presented on it is the set of a scene from the Bible (the Supper itself, the walking of Christ on water, the crucifixion and the prayer before Judas' treachery) which are surprisingly combined, intertwining with each other. It is necessary to say, that the bible theme in Salvador’s works, takes a powerful position. The artist tried to find God in the surrounding world, in himself, representing Christ as the center of the Universe ("the Christ of San Juan de la Cruz", 1951).
