| | A group of Cuban nationals tried to make a third bid to reach the shore of the United States in a vintage American auto that they have converted into a boat. They were intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard. Their tearful mothers, back in Havana, pleaded with U.S. authorities to allow these travelers to stay in the United States, stating that they would be jailed if sent back to Cuba. A total of thirteen Cubans, including six young children, sailed across the Florida Straits in a 1949 Mercury, with a taxi sign on the roof. The voyagers were intercepted about twenty miles off of Key West on Tuesday morning, according to Miami television station NBC6.
