Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service ranger Peter Sykes said that the familar yellow warning signs were an important part of the agency's "croc-wise" public awareness campaign -- a campaign designed to keep people safe when using the waterways for recreational purposes. Shortly after the sign disappeared, tourists entered the river for a swim, having no idea that crocodiles were to be found nearby. The theft of the sign is described as a selfish and dangerous act. The signs are specially made and cannot be replaced easily. |
