Throughout 2005, there were a significant (some would suggest spectacular) number of mergers and acquisitions in the business world. The trend appears to have continued into 1006. In the United Kingdom, talk of mergers and acquisitions have boosted the share value of stock in health and beauty retailer Boots as well as telecom firm Cable and Wireless. In the United States, the Walt Disney Company has said that it will merge its ABC Radio network with Citadel Broadcasting Corporation in a deal that is valued at $2.7 billion. The combined company is to be known as Citadel Communicatons. Disney shareholders will own about 52 percent of the combined entity, with Citadel shareholders owning the remainder of the enterprise.
