Welcome to FN. Very nice work, great 1st entry. First thing: Submit the biggest possible image. You may size it up to 250 kB, but don't forget to keep an eye on quality (60% is a good number). I love the composition here. A canvas is always a good idea to photoshop an image. Perhaps a little less of the painting filter. Add noise, some "crackings" that make it really old, add parts of your canvas source to get a different texture. It looks good - no question - but this filter makes the canvas effect too regular in my opinion. Good luck.

Thanks for your help. I don't know if this looks better (or even if it's reloaded the new version.). And I tried to follow the instructions for sizing the picture - this seems to be the best I can optimize it for web at 500 pixels across and 250 kb.

Thank you for the edit. Way better now. Now I see a canvas Full view usually shows an image wider than 500px. Did you work with the small themepost. There's a link under the image "...(click to download)" where you find a very large version of 1944px width in this case. When I save an image for a contest I save it in two versions. One is the full view image with nearly 250 kb and maximum size, the second is "my own preview" with 500px width - what do voters see, how does it work. The 1st is the one I submit later. If people are interested in they may take a look - usually to spot the details.
