I know the urge to realize an idea once it's there but I'd say that fire is a quite hard start for photoshop. generally it is an enormous challenge to draw photorealistic things by hand...find good source pics and chop out the parts you need. start with the basics..there are very helpful tutorials at FN. and of course: WELCOME.

I agree that fire is hard to do. I would suggest working with some other ideas first, than try to tackle flames. And of course, Welcome to FN.
