R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company announced that it is dropping all advertisements in newspapers and magazines after the scandal over its recent advertisement for Camel No. 9 in Rolling Stone Magazine. The glossy foldout advertisement was aimed at younger women, and met a lot of criticism suggesting that it appealed to teenagers and even kids. R. J. Reynolds is the second biggest U.S. tobacco company after Philip Morris, which did not buy newspaper or magazine advertisements in the last three years to avoid the controversy.

| | Marlboro – trade mark of cigarettes, released by the company Altria Group (mostly popular as Philip Morris) from the year 1924.
One of the most famous cigarettes brand in the world, in virtue of powerful advertising agencies and significant sponsors investments in the auto sport (particularly, financial support from the end of 1970s for the Ferrari team.
A magazine Chemical Research of Toxicology published item wise the brands of cigarettes, in which most of the quantity of special type of Nicotine – “free”. Free nicotine falls into blood of the smoker with maximum quickness and that’s why specially influences negatively on the health. That’s why the most significantly dangerous cigarettes are the following brands: American Spirit, Gauloises, Marlboro, Virginia Slims, Camel, Winston and Doral.
Its worthy to remind, that specialists of American state center for control and prophylaxis of diseases in Atlanta, protested by cigarettes of different trademarks, came to a conclusion – cigarettes of “Marlboro”, manufactured by the company “Philip Morris” in USA, may be much dangerous than their own analogues, manufactured in other countries. In the original American “Marlboro”, which is given a high value by its lovers, contains much more powerful carcinogen -
nitrosamine. American scientists compared the content of these ingredients in “Marlboro”, made in USA and in 13 countries. Totally 14 samples of cigarettes were experimented, in 11 out of those nitrosamine contained much lesser, than those manufactured in the USA.
The press service of the company “Philip Morris” immediately reacted to this message, complaining that high content of nitrosamine, is typical for tobacco, which is characteristic for not only “Marlboro” but also for most of the other brands of American cigarettes and that this result of tobacco usage, raised in the USA. This followed to take into account by the lovers of authentic American cigarettes in Russia. And such people are less for us.
Meanwhile in June 40 governments already signed an International anti tobacco convention. The document was open for signing on 16 June, and in a week it was signed by 40 governments and European commission. In the previous month the anti tobacco convention, discussions of which were carried for four years, was permitted by the World Health Assembly, being a higher agency of the World Health Organization. The convention foresaw cancellation of duty-free trading of tobacco items, limited to their advertisements, occasion for reduction of number of passive smokers and a range of measurements for extinction of contraband of tobacco items. It is assumed that convention inputs force after which, how it will be written and sanctioned by 40 countries. |
