| Stockings are a type of garments for lower part of the legs. Stockings are usually made of textile fabrics. In the past, stockings were used both by women as well as by men. In modern fashion - as a rule, stockings are item of lady's garments.
With an aim to prevent from slip down of stockings along the legs, stockings were used with garters and a special belt, to which the garters were fastened. This fashion found its reflection particularly in the name of garter order. In modern female stockings, as a rule, fixation on the legs is made possible by the presence of elastic braid (rubber) at the top of stockings.
At the same time, stockings, as specific type of garment items, are used in various variants of special and protective garments (suits of chemical, biological protection, etc.). |
