| | Children of troops stationed overseas got a White House Christmas visit in a brightly decorated East Room on Monday, complete with sugar plums, dancing candy canes, holiday wishes from President Bush and the first lady. First lady Laura Bush, who helped organize the event, gave the children a short explanation of the story behind Piotr Tchaikovsky's Christmas classic, "The Nutcracker." The story, about a little girl and her toys that come to life and dance, was performed by the Washington Ballet and local ballet students in the East Room, where four giant Christmas trees were decorated with red and white ornaments. |
