You may remember the joke "One out of every five people in the
world is Chinese. Check four of your friends - if none of them is
Chinese, it is you." Well, I checked four of my friends and see
that this joke has a typo. The correct version is "One out of every
five people in the world is not Chinese..."
In this contest you are asked to photoshop celebrities and politicians
as Chinese. We are not looking for just a Chinese dress up and makeup
(even though you can do that too), but your primary goal is to change
some of the facial features (eyes, nose, lips, etc.) of politicians
and celebrities which would make them look Chinese-like, but still
recognizable.

| | The wealthier countries on the planet are failing to fully grasp the impact that the inevitable growth China and India will have in the world of the future. This topic was discussed at the 2006 Wallace Wurth Memorial Lecture at the University of New South Wales. It is expected that within the coming 25 years the combined gross domestic products of India and China will excess that of the Group of Seven nations. This should occur sometime between 2030 and 2040. China will become the largest economy in the world, leaving the U.S.A. trailing behind. By 2050 many experts predict that China's current $2 trillion GDP in U.S. dollars will explode to a mammoth $48.6 trillion. India's economy will hit $27 trillion at the same point in time. These projects have been made by investment bank Goldman Sachs. The U.S.A.'s income would reach $37 trillion by that time. These forecasts suggest that Western nations, and Australia, are not investing enough in education. China and India are also making a substantial investment in
Africa. Africa is front and center in the development plans of both China and India.
The political structure of Peoples Republic of China:
After the formation of Peoples Republic of China in December, 1949, four Constitutions (in 1954, 1975, 1978 and 1982) have been adopted. As per the Constitution of the Peoples Republic of China (December 1982), PRC is a socialist state with a democratic dictatorship of the people.
The supreme body of the state is the unicameral All-China National People's Congress (NPC), consisting of 2979 deputies elected from regional congresses of national representatives for a period of 5 years. Sessions of the NPC are held annually.
Due to a large number of deputies, in between the sessions the functions of the NCP are carried out by the standing committee selected from among the delegates (around 150 people).
Only deputies from the Communist party of China and eight so-called democratic parties, included in the National political advisory council of China are allowed to take part in the elections. Proper legislative governments run the territories of Syangan (Hong Kong) and Macao (Aomyn).
All the deputies of the NPC are representatives of a block of communists and democrats.
Head of the PRC Hu Jintao is the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He is the representative of a fourth generation of heads of the country.
Transition of power to this generation started in 2002 when Hu Jintao replaced Jiang Zemin in the post of general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In March 2003, Hu Jintao was chosen as head of the Peoples Republic of China, and in September 2004 and chairman of the central military commission (CMC) of Central Committee of CPC. Earlier all these posts were held by Jiang Zemin. On the 8th of March 2005 the session of Chinese parliament (All China congress of national representatives) approved Jiang Zemin’s request for resignation from the post of chairman of the central military commission of the PRC. Later this post was also held by Hu Jintao that completed the process of handing-over the power at the top level.
The central military commission of the PRC was established in 1982. Deng Xiaoping was its first chairman; in 1990 Jiang Zemin replaced him. Posts of the heads of the CMC of the Central Committee of the CPC and CMC of the PRC in the present political system of China, as a rule, are held by one person.
Te military commission and its head play an important role in the Chinese political system. As, in 1989 holding this post Deng Xiaoping, who was by this time already retired from the higher posts of party and government, practically single-handedly took the decision for suppression of the demonstrations on Tiananmen Square.
The foreign policy of China is criticized for actual support of genocide in Sudan, and also for the support to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The PRC conducts its foreign policy, promoting the strengthening of China’s role in world politics.
The PRC claims its sovereignty over the island of Taiwan and several neighboring islands; however after the victory of the socialist revolution, the toppled government of Chan Kaishi fled to this place and again established the so-called Kuomintang regime, which is to date under the protection of the USA. The PRC considers Taiwan and neighboring islands as a part of a single and indivisible Chinese state. The leadership of Taiwan, or as it is officially called, the “Republic of China”, also claims for the sovereignty over the entire territory of China, though in recent times there is a movement catching up to declare Taiwan as a separate state.
In foreign writings, often the areas which are under the control of the PRC, are called continental China, thus usually this concept does not include the so-called special administrative areas like Hong Kong and Macao (they were the British and Portuguese colonies and have been reunited with the PRC only towards the end of the 20th century).
As per the agreement concluded with Great Britain in 1989, control over Syangan (Hong Kong) was handed-over to the PRC as a special administrative area on 1st June 1997, and the last Portuguese colony of Macao (Aomyn) was handed over in 1999.
Some territorial disputes erupted between Russia and China in 2005 when Russia conceded some islands near to Khabarovsk (including the western part of the island Great Ussuriisk) to the PRC.
Administrative division of PRC:
The People’s Republic of China has the administrative control over 22 provinces; thus the government of the PRC considers Taiwan as the 23rd province. Also, there are 5 independent regions in the PRC where national minorities of China live; 4 municipal territories, corresponding to the cities directly controlled by the center, and 2 special administrative territories under the control of the PRC.
22 provinces, 5 independent regions and 4 cities under central control are collectively called “continental China”, which generally does not include Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
