On Monday, Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist revealed publicly that he is suffering from thyroid cancer. He is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for the disease. He likely will not return to the bench any time soon. The disclosure by the 80 year old head of the U.S. Supreme Court underscores that the next president will have at least one appointment to make to the Supreme Court and likely more.
